Just in time for Fairtrade Fortnight at the end of this month, the Central Co-op have announced a free online wine tasting event hosted by The Wine Events Company.
Wine lovers from around the central region are invited to discover the world of Fairtrade wines at this live 60-minute event, where they will learn all about the basics of wine tasting and enjoy a fun-packed evening full of games and activities. The latest event ‘Read Between the Wines’ is certainly a special one, as it focuses solely on Malbecs.
Tony Elvin, Sommelier and Wine Educator, said: “During the evening we’ll be talking about and tasting four fantastic Fairtrade wines. Over the past few years Malbec has regularly been cited as our guest’s favourite red wine at tastings across the country, so we thought it would be fun to ‘focus on Malbec’ with four very different Malbecs on taste featuring a single varietal Malbec, a Malbec rosé and two Malbec blends, all fair-trade, all from Argentina and all fabulous. We’ll share the somewhat surprising history of this superstar grape and discover what has made it so popular.”
The wines featured are all available from a local Central Co-op store – the Finca Las Moras Fairtrade Malbec rosé, the Finca Las Moras Fairtrade Cabernet Sauvignon Malbec, the Co-op Fairtrade Bonarda Blend and the Co-op Fairtrade Irresistible Organic Malbec.
Participants in the event will also learn how every bottle they buy can have an impact on the lives of the Fairtrade farmers and workers who grew the grapes.
Tony added: “The aim is to let people know that they can get great wine at great value prices, whilst still making sure that the producers get a fair price for their produce.”
The event will be taking place on-line on Thursday 2nd March at 7pm, in the first week of Fairtrade Fortnight which runs from 27th February to 12th March.
Paul Reece, Community Manager at Central Co-op said: “When you choose Fairtrade, you’re choosing the protection of a minimum price, and the power of the Fairtrade Premium. You’re also supporting Fairtrade’s work to find new ways to battle the challenges of climate change.”
“This year is all about preserving the products that people love as they are under threat due to global conditions.”
All four Fairtrade Wines for this event will be discounted by 20% during Fairtrade Fortnight and are available to buy at your local Central Co-op store.
