Top line-up of local acts brings festival vibe back to hotel for a great cause

Fun, food and fireworks will provide the backdrop for the return of a popular charity music festival near Stratford this summer.

Stratfest, at Stratford Park Hotel & Golf Club on August 9th, will once again lend its stage to a host of talented local musicians while also raising money for south Warwickshire children’s charity Molly Ollys.

Rock and Roll party cover band Bands Texan Peacocks, from Stratford, and No Direction, a rock and pop cover band from Snitterfield, head the impressive line-up which will culminate with a spectacular fireworks finale lighting up the skies at 10pm. Other acts include Frazer Lepford, performing Indie and Rock; Jake Rees, performing Classical and Pop; guitarist Luke Brougham playing Spanish/Latino and Country; Rock Pop duo The Tickets and Pop vocalist Honor Isabella.

The hotel’s co-owner and General Manager Beverley Haynes, said: “This is the second year we have staged this fantastic event which promises to have something for everyone, with a fantastic line-up of local musical talent keeping the crowds entertained and plenty of fun activities for the whole family. So there’s plenty to keep the younger festival-goers entertained, allowing the adults to properly relax and soak up the festival atmosphere.

“And all in the added knowledge that they are adding to the coffers of an incredible local charity such as Molly Ollys, helping them maintain their work supporting as many children and families as they can across the country.”

Rachel Ollerenshaw established Molly Ollys with husband Tim in 2011, following the death of their eight-year-old daughter Molly from a rare kidney cancer.

The Warwick-based charity works to support children with terminal or life-limiting illnesses and their families and help with their emotional wellbeing. As well as providing more than 4,300 wishes to date, they donate therapeutic toys and books to both children directly and to hospitals throughout the UK.

A set of books from the charity’s exclusive Olly The Brave series and the lion have now been handed out to more than 70 hospitals or health centres to distribute to children undergoing treatment. Olly has his own Hickman line and a detachable mane which helps to explain and normalise the effects of chemotherapy.

Part of more than £5m raised to date, has also been used to fund the first consultant in paediatric palliative medicine at Birmingham Children’s Hospital and pay for the training of a further two consultants.

Rachel Ollerenshaw said: “Molly Ollys are really looking forward to being a part of Stratfest this year. It will be a great day with lots going on and brilliant line up of local talent. Big thanks to all the team at Stratford Park Hotel for inviting us to join them and helping us to raise funds and awareness of our work to make the dark days brighter for children with life threatening illnesses.”

The festival starts at 2pm and is laying on a host of family activities including bouncy castle, bouncy slide, face painter and fun with Muddy Munchkins Playgroup, which is based in the grounds of the hotel. There will also be the chance to get your shopping fix at a range of artisan stalls.

The independent Stratford Park Hotel & Golf Club, which now has 32 bedrooms, was converted from a farmhouse and opened in 1993, alongside an 18-hole 72-par golf course, offering a range of visitor and guest packages. The adjacent Meadow Barn events venue is popular for bespoke weddings, surrounded by a private arrival courtyard with fountain and terrace seating.

Sponsors are also being sought for the event. Anyone interested is asked to contact Beverley at: beverley@thestratfordpark.co.uk

Tickets are £7 or £14 for a family of two adults and three children and can be purchased via HERE.

Meet the Brazilian foodie-turned-author at Stratford book signing event

Meet the Brazilian foodie-turned-author at Stratford book signing event

Bianca Rodrigues-Perry, book signing, Stratford, The Woodsman

Food lovers are being invited to an exclusive book signing event in Stratford next month hosted by author, chef, presenter and entrepreneur Bianca Rodrigues-Perry.

Independent businesses in Coventry and Warwickshire are at the heart of her new book celebrating food, resilience and their community, the profits from which go to charity.

‘Bia’s Kitchen Show: The Cookbook – A Culinary Journey of Gratitude,’ is the first in a collection launched by Brazilian-born Bianca, who also fronts the successful Bia’s Kitchen Show on YouTube.

Rooted in Bia’s own journey of overcoming personal challenges through her passion for cooking, this beautifully crafted collection invites readers to embark on a flavourful adventure. Featuring recipes from her popular online TV series – as well as some of her own creations – the book introduces some of the best independent food businesses in Warwickshire, showcasing talented chefs, nutritionists, and food artisans who bring their love of culinary art to life.

And every purchase makes a difference, with all profits supporting the mental health charity, MIND, a cause close to the author’s heart following years of her own personal struggles.

From comforting family meals to exotic dishes, the recipes in this book are both accessible and inventive, allowing home cooks of all levels to recreate the magic of these local chefs in their own kitchens.

Alongside these mouth-watering dishes, Brazilian-born Bia shares her heartfelt story of how cooking became her path to happiness, making this book a deeply personal and uplifting read.

Bia’s journey of reinvention began when she left behind her family and a high-flying marketing career in 2009, emigrating to Leamington from her native Rio de Janeiro as the newly married Mrs David Perry – her future now devoted to a new role as mum of three.

It was also to signal the start of a turbulent period in her life, spending much of her pregnancy in hospital with crippling sickness and battling with chronic post-natal depression and a series of health scares involving her children.

The book also includes a heartfelt dedication to her brother-in-law Oli Perry who took his own life in 2021 and has been published in his memory.

It’s Bia’s combined passions of cooking and entrepreneurialism that became a lifeline – even going on to win Couple’s Come Dine With Me on Channel Four. Buoyed by her early business success running a thriving food delivery service during lockdown, it was in January last year that the Bia’s Kitchen Show brand was born.

Since then Bianca and her show, which is streamed regularly on YouTube, have won the affections of a loyal and growing UK audience, even winning the entrepreneur a national award. She is also this year in the running for two more accolades – Influencer of the Year for Ladies First Inspirational Women Awards and Special Recognition for the Woman Who Awards.

She said: “Six months after the launch of the book, I’m delighted to be coming to Stratford and hope to meet as many food lovers as possible there. We are grateful to be hosted by The Woodsman Restaurant at hotel Indigo, whose Executive Chef Greg Newman was one of the guests on my show last year. The evening will be a wonderful opportunity to celebrate food and the independent food industry in our area.”

She added: “This is a fantastic cookbook full of gratitude, community, and flavour, and discovering how cooking can heal and bring people together.

“I have loved where this journey is taking me so far and have met so many talented entrepreneurs who have also inspired me in their own stories of resilience. It’s been a pleasure to share in their passion and I’m proud to feature them in this first book which, fittingly, begins my culinary’ journey of gratitude’ in the adopted community I now call home.”

Greg Newman said: “I had the incredible opportunity to work alongside Bia when she invited me to co-host on her YouTube channel. Her infectious personality and charisma were instantly warm and welcoming. Her passion for food, deep respect for tradition, and natural ability to connect with people shine through in everything she does — both on screen and in person.

“This book is a true reflection of that spirit. It gives me the greatest pleasure to continue this journey with Bia and her followers at The Woodsman for what I’m certain will be a wonderfully successful book launch.”

Come along and meet Bianca and buy a signed copy of her book at Hotel Indigo, Chapel Street, between 7-9.30pm on Thursday, May 8th. Complimentary drinks and canapes will also be served.

Local youngsters are boxing clever after business donation

Cleary's Boxing Gym, Leamington

Youngsters at a community boxing gym in Leamington are boxing clever following the donation of gloves worth £2,000.

The 40 pairs of Velcro boxing gloves were recently presented to Cleary’s Boxing Gym in Leamington by Combat Co. based in Bishops Itchington.

The non-profit community gym was opened in 2007 by Edwin Cleary, who trained with Jack Turpin – younger brother of local boxing legend Randolph Turpin – before himself turning professional.

It has welcomed up to 300 members since moving into its new £100k premises in Acre Close 18 months ago, following a crowdfunding campaign. Facilities include three boxing rings (one championship size), a media suite, small conference room, homework space, lounge area, treatment room and showers and changing facilities.

Cleary’s also hosts professional boxing titles as well as opening up its facilities to post-16s education.

Kurt Canavan, from Cleary’s, said: “The company expressed a genuine commitment to empowering local youth through sports and their vision and values aligned seamlessly with ours. We found common ground in our belief of affordable access is essential for fostering talent and encouraging participation among young athletes.

“The potential impact is exciting as both businesses continue to grow. Our partnership has the ability to cultivate a supportive and safe environment and network for aspiring athletes. We have a shared passion for grassroots sport and commitment to hard work and nurturing talent and values like teamwork, resilience and community spirit.

“This contribution not only helps provide essential safety equipment, but also promotes fitness , discipline and camaraderie within the community.”

Combat Co. supplies quality MMA sports gear and was established in 2023 by husband and wife Prabjot and Jazz Dhaliwal, born from their shared passion for combat sports.

Cleary's Boxing Gym, Leamington

Prabjot Dhaliwal, co-owner of Combat Co. said: “We first connected with Cleary’s Boxing Gym in January this year. A mutual friend introduced us, knowing they were looking to work with a glove supplier for their in-gym and online store.

“After our first meeting with Kurt, there was an instant connection. We really understood their vision – using boxing to engage and inspire the younger generation, helping them get fit and stay focused, and potentially guiding them towards success in the sport.

“We were also incredibly impressed with Cleary’s dedication to women’s boxing and their wider efforts within the community. Their energy and commitment to making a difference gave us a real buzz every time we visited.

“Becoming their official stockist felt like a natural step. But we wanted to go further – to give something back. We know how challenging it can be for local clubs to afford new equipment, and sometimes something as simple as a new pair of gloves can be the spark that gets a young person through the door and falling in love with the sport.

“This donation is just one way two local businesses can come together to support a shared cause – promoting boxing and making a real impact in the community.”

He added: “We’ve always been fascinated by the discipline, energy and heart that goes into the sport, and we wanted to reflect that same spirit in everything we create. We spent over two years researching what makes a truly great glove – from the materials and fit to the shape and durability. It was essential to us that we got the manufacturing process absolutely right before launching.”
