A proud PR stood alongside some of her own clients to receive a national award for inspirational entrepreneurs earlier this month.

Amanda Chalmers of Chalmers News PR, collected the ‘Excellence In Media’ Award at Ladies First Professional Development Network Business Awards last week, along with three of her own clients Lianne Kirkman, Bianca Rodrigues-Perry and Paola Spiga who were also recognised.

They were among 32 winners at the Ladies First Inspirational Achievers Awards, held at the IXL Centre at Dallas Burston Polo Club, in Southam.

Amanda spent almost three decades in the regional press, culminating with a stint in the Stratford Herald editor’s chair between 2014 and 2018, before launching Chalmers News PR, based in Warwick.

This marks the third accolade for her agency in less than seven year, winning the same award in 2023 followed by the Woman Who Awards ‘Achieves In Media’ category gong in 2024.

Amanda worked on newsdesks in and around Warwickshire, including the former Nuneaton Tribune and Rugby Advertiser, and, as deputy editor at the Daventry Express and Buckingham and Winslow Advertiser series before joining the Herald.

She said: “This is another very proud moment in the journey of Chalmers News PR, now into its seventh year. I dedicate it to all the amazing clients who have entrusted me with their businesses and charities, two of whom even nominated me for the awards in the first place.

“It is an absolute privilege to be rewarded for something I’m so passionate about and so much the sweeter when I’m sharing the spotlight with other people I really admire. It feels like a double win!”

Amanda’s clients also scooped awards, from several which made the finalists list are: Lianne Kirkman. She was awarded the Community Champion prize after founding The Esther Project, a women-only initiative to provide gender-specific support – as well as launching The Esther House – a seven-bed supported living accommodation in Leamington, providing a safe space for women to recover.

Bianca Rodrigues-Perry, from Leamington, and Paola Spiga, from Balsall Common, received Special Recognition Awards. The ladies also sponsored the Excellence In Independent Food and Start-Up of the Year categories respectively.

Bianca is the face of Bia’s Kitchen Show, being streamed to audiences on YouTube, Spotify, Instagram and Facebook. The show, launched last year, aims to champion local independent businesses with many restaurateurs and chefs taking guest spots.

At Glam and Glow Beauty Lab, in Hockley Heath, Paola combines the best of traditional and modern therapies – including some rooted in Chinese medicine – to offer a sanctuary that sets her out as one of a kind, distinguishing her services through extensive research.

Once a beautician to the rich and famous, she empowers her clients to understand their skin and make the right choice every time, attending to both their physical and mental well-being and ensuring a holistic approach to beauty and care.

Since opening, in October last year, she has consistently received five-star reviews from clients.

Amanda and her clients were among three hundred people assembled for the glittering black tie celebration at IXL Dallas Burston Polo Club, in south Warwickshire, and featured a host of live musical entertainment. The evening also included an auction and raffle, which raised around £5,000 towards ongoing fundraising for new breast cancer equipment for Birmingham hospitals.

Other categories included Business Woman of the Year; Start-Up of the Year; Trailblazer of the Year; Rising Star; Family Business; Inspirational Woman; Excellence In Technology & Innovation; Inclusive Leadership and Man and Excellence In Independent Food.

Ladies First Director Tracey McAtamney said: “Our Ladies First Awards celebrated the achievements of both women and men in our community, honouring those who have gone over and above in their business and in their personal lives. INSPIRATIONAL achievers from Coventry and Warwickshire were among those celebrated at the seventh Ladies First Professional Development Network Business Awards.

Three hundred people assembled at Dallas Burston Polo Club, in Southam for the glittering ceremony last week, hosted by Kirsty Leahy and Karen Jones.

The evening’s entertainment also included performances by Birmingham’s Elmhurst Ballet School and singers Pippa Langhorne, Colin ‘Sugarfoot Mills’ and Ruth Kelly.

Headline winners on the night included the Business Woman of the Year, Abigail Edmunds from Stratford and Elinor Perry, of Pentlands Accountants, in Leamington who was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award. Lianne said: “I am so proud and was completely overwhelmed. This award may have my name on it, but I received it on behalf of our whole team at The Esther Project. You can’t achieve what we have in this last year without a strong team of people standing beside me.

“As a volunteer myself, and with some other amazing ladies also giving their time for free, we have really achieved so much to establish The Esther Project as an independent community project this last year.”

Elinor Perry said: “This was a real ‘pinch me’ moment and completely unexpected. 2025 is a particularly special year, marking 20 years of owning and leading Pentlands and 25 years of working in the business. To be recognised at this milestone is just wonderful. It’s a real honour, and I was so pleased that friends, clients, and members of the Pentlands team were there to share in such a special moment.”

Abigail Edmunds said: “Since taking over Domino Style eight years ago I have worked so hard to make sure the business a success in what is a very competitive and tough market. So to win this award and to be recognised in this way is incredible, especially in a competition full of so many incredible and inspiring women! However, I wouldn’t be here without the huge support I receive on a daily basis from my incredible Domino team, my family and friends for their unwavering support and to my amazing customers.”

Among those presented with Special Recognition Awards on the night were: Bianca Rodrigues-Perry, of Bia’s Kitchen Show, Leamington and Iliada Rossi of Rossi Studio Ltd, Warwick.

Bianca said: “This special award marks the latest cause for celebration on the Bia’s Kitchen Show journey. I am incredibly grateful to be recognised for not only the success of my brand but also for my continued involvement in Ladies First whose ethos mirrors that of my own – to champion and celebrate inspirational individuals and businesses with an ‘appetite’ to succeed.”

Iliada said: “I’m truly honoured to receive this award. It’s a wonderful recognition of the hard work and passion that has gone into building my interior architecture and design firm.”

The Awards, which were unveiled at The House of Commons in February, are headed up by Ladies First director Tracey McAtamney from Balsall Common and sponsored by Edwards Wealth, in Berkswell; Alsters Kelley Solicitors; Pertemps Network; IXL Centre; Mallory Court Country House; Bia’s Kitchen Show and Sandhu Foods.

Warwickshire-based solicitors Alsters Kelley has today announced the acquisition of Banbury-based Aplins Solicitors, making it one of the largest solicitor’s firms in the region.

The acquisition further extends its presence into Oxfordshire and bringing its total number of offices to six.

It is an exciting development for the Legal 500 firm which already operates in Coventry, Nuneaton, Leamington Spa, Southam and Stratford-upon-Avon and it is their second acquisition in the last five years.

Fourteen members of staff at Aplins, plus the three current partners will remain at the firm, taking the total Alsters Kelley workforce to 100.

Aplins, which is situated in West Bar, Banbury was established in 1739 and has a long history. It currently offers services in Private Client and Conveyancing.

The deal will allow the firm, which will become known as Alsters Kelley incorporating Aplins, to extend its range of services throughout Banbury and the surrounding areas, whilst continuing to provide a high level of personal service for which it has always been renowned.
